With an eye on a seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2028-29 term, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has presented a compelling case for India's candidacy.

SHANTI, an acronym for 'Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity', encapsulates India's proposed approach to international relations. Seeking Support
India's campaign for the UNSC seat comes at a crucial time, as the country continues to push for wider reforms within the United Nations. The current structure of the UNSC, established in 1945, fails to reflect the geopolitical realities of today. New Delhi argues for an expansion of both permanent and non-permanent memberships to address the imbalance in decision-making power.
If elected, India would join the ranks of the 10 rotating non-permanent members, alongside the five permanent members. The elections are scheduled for June next year, and India will compete with Tajikistan for the single Asia-Pacific Group seat.
